This project explores the intersection of DIN, a typeface engineered for industrial efficiency, and Brutalist architecture, examining their shared ethos of raw functionality and modular design. Through research and visual experimentation, I traced DIN’s origins in 1936 Germany—where Ludwig Goller standardized typography for railways and factories—and drew parallels to Brutalism’s post-war emergence, which prioritized raw concrete and social utility. The design outcome is a booklet that mirrors their principles: rigid grids, monochrome palettes, and technical annotations evoke DIN’s geometric precision, while concrete textures and stark contrasts nod to Brutalism’s material honesty. By dissecting letterforms as architectural blueprints and framing typography as infrastructure, the project underscores how both disciplines reject ornamentation to champion clarity, resilience, and timeless relevance.
